Grief on 21 June filled the residents of Kisenyi 11 zone Kamwokya; a Kampala slum when a boy, Khan Kakama who went missing on 8 June, was found dead. Police discovered the body in a bush near a water channel in the slum. According to detectives, the body was found wrapped in three sacks with the head tied in separate polythene bags on a rubbish pit.
Kakama [one and a half years] was a son to Mr. Sven Karekaho and Ms. Naome Karekaho; residents of Bugolobi. A memorial service was held at All Saints cathedral in Nakasero where several people attended including the First Lady Mrs. Janet Museveni who broke down. Her daughters and the inspector general of police Maj. Gen. Kale Kayihura attended too. The president, in his absence, extended his sympathies to the bereaved family through his wife saying he hopes justice is served and the culprits are caught.
In his speech, the deceased’s father gave a caution to all parents to be aware of people they bring into their families to take care of their children. He also dedicated the service to all children who were kidnapped and murdered but for whom justice not served or the criminals not arrested. The body was laid to rest on 24 June in Rukungiri. Police have already got some suspects who they believe were behind the death of Kakama. It is also alleged that the suspects received a ransom of 30million shillings and that they had already used half of it. The suspects include Kakama’s nanny and two other men who are believed to be friends with the nanny.
