Otunnu set to address Ugandans in UK
By Sharon Tibenda – 2nd-8th Aug 2010
Dr. Olara Otunnu, the President of one of Uganda’s top opposition political parties the Uganda Peoples’ Congress [UPC] is scheduled to address Ugandans in the United Kingdom for the first time since he was elected UPC Party President early this year.
The mobilisation message from the organisers that is doing the rounds online and via mobile phone SMS says “…we are delighted to inform you that Dr. Olara Otunnu the President of the UPC Party, former UN Under-Secretary and one of the leaders of the IPC will be visiting the United Kingdom and London in particular on the 14th of August 2010”.And the stakes couldn’t be any higher for Olara Otunnu. His UK organisers have sold the event as the day when “…Dr Olara Otunnu will address Ugandans in the Diaspora in the UK and enlighten them on his vision for a new Uganda in the twenty first century”. In nutshell, Otunnu will have to tell Ugandans and indeed the world why he thinks he [as opposed to the other IPC party leaders including Dr. Kizza Besigye] is best placed to lead the opposition IPC alliance, and by extension, Uganda as a whole. Dr. Otunnu is known for his eloquence so it should be an interesting prospect.
The public meeting will take place at Keyworth Conference Centre, London South Bank University, London SE1 OAA on Saturday the 14th August 2010 from 13:00pm to 19:00pm. The nearest train and underground stations to the venue are Waterloo, London Bridge, and Elephant and Castle station. “Free admission, come one, come all”; the message ends.
