A senior High Court Judge has said the law needs to be changed to empower courts to ban convicted election thieves from elective politics for life, Uganda Correspondent can reveal.
Speaking to Uganda Correspondent on condition of anonymity at his Chambers within the High Court buildings in Kampala, the Judge, who says he has presided over many election petitions, said it is scandalous to allow election thieves to participate immediately after their conviction.

A senior official of the Mujahidin Movement Al-Shabab has vowed that his group will wage war on the people of Uganda and Burundi to revenge for the killings that the two armies allegedly carried out against innocent civilians in Somalia.
Speaking to hundreds of people at Dabaqyayn Mosque in Mogadishu’s Huriwaa District where a seminar for Mogadishu’s traditional elders was concluded last week, Shaykh Fu’ad Muhammad Khalaf aka “Shongole” threatened that his group will soon carry out attacks on Burundi and Uganda. (more…)

The International Criminal Court’s [ICC’s] long arm of criminal justice against suspected perpetrators of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Africa will be critically discussed at a conference in Oslo-Norway.
The conference, due to take place on the 20th of November has been organised by the Africa Centre for Information and Development [ACID] in collaboration with the Norwegian Social Forum. The theme of the conference will be “Addressing Impunity & Human Rights Abuses in Sub-Saharan Africa: The Role of the International Criminal Court”.

The Lord’s Resistance Army [LRA] rebels have among other armed groups been accused of harassing civilians in Southern Sudan.
On her first full day of a six-day mission to Sudan, Ms. Valerie Amos, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordination said, “…harassment and violence against humanitarian workers is unacceptable and I am concerned for their security”. (more…)

Tanzania’s incumbent President Jakaya Kikwete has been returned as the country’s President following last weekend’s elections. Tanzania’s Electoral Commission said Mr Kikwete won just over 61% of the votes, beating candidates from opposition parties.
The main opposition leader, Willibrod Slaa, had called for a vote recount, but the commission said there were not enough irregularities to change the final result.
