Museveni is a ‘rejected’ president – Besigye

The IPC’s presidential candidate Dr. Kizza Besigye, who is also the FDC President, has said it is now clear that Museveni is a rejected President who is on his way out.
“…Every election has different situations. The issues are different. And, in this election, obviously, the country is to decide whether, after a quarter of a century under the rule of President Museveni, he should be given another mandate. The clear, overwhelming view is that the whole country will reject Mr. Museveni. He is on his way out and that is causing him to behave and talk in panic”, Besigye said.
The IPC leader made the ground breaking declaration to Uganda Correspondent as part of his reaction to President Museveni’s threat last week to arrest him if he declares his own results in the forthcoming elections scheduled to take place in February 2011.
Commenting on the post-election crisis in Ivory Coast that Museveni had made reference to while issuing his threat to arrest Besigye, the IPC leader said the embattled president Laurent Gbagbo should step down after being rejected by the people.
“…The situation in Ivory Coast is one which is very, very clear. The incumbent lost the election. He is using every means at his disposal to sustain himself in power. I think the international community has reacted correctly to make their position clear that what Mr. Gbagbo is doing is completely unacceptable and that he must leave office. I think what is required now is to shoulder the means to force him to do so”, Besigye added.
Dr. Besigye also accused the international community of failing to take resolute positions with regard previous election rigging by President Museveni. And because of that, Dr. Besigye said, “…Ugandans are not counting on the international community in case there are problems following next year’s election. We are ready to deal with Ugandan election cheats decisively this time round”, Besigye charged.
