Govt bans Besigye sister’s ‘anti-govt’ book

Uganda Revenue Authority [URA] has impounded a consignment of a book written by Dr. Kizza Besigye’s young sister Dr. Olive Kobusingye on grounds that it is “anti-government”.
The book, a copy of which Uganda Correspondent has seen, is published under a title that asks a very simple question: The Correct Line? Its sub-title is “Uganda under Museveni”.

We shall not accept flawed elections – Otunnu

UPC party president Dr. Olara Otunnu has said as a party, UPC will not accept anymore flawed elections organised by what he called the “Museveni-Kiggundu” Electoral Commission [EC].

We are ready for 2011 violence – police

A senior police officer has declared that the force is well prepared for any violence that might be caused by trouble makers during the 2011 elections.
The officer, a Senior Superintendant of Police [SSP] who spoke to Uganda Correspondent, said, “…We have anticipated and prepared adequately for the possibility of violence erupting during the 2011 elections. We know some of the trouble causers and we are following their preparations. No one will be allowed to spoil the democratic process”, he said. (more…)
US wants UPDF to account for DRC war crimes

The US government has “strongly” demanded that countries like Uganda and Rwanda that were accused of committing serious war crimes in the Democratic Republic of Congo [DRC] be held accountable.
Uganda’s UPDF and Rwanda’s RPA were among the regional armies and armed groups that were implicated in a UN mapping report released on October 1st 2010 of committing serious war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide in the DRC.

UPDF/AU troops gain ground over Al-Shabaab

The UPDF contingent serving under the AU peace mission in Somalia have gained ground in the fight against Al Shabaab and other Islamist militants, allafrica.om has reported.
“…Our troops now control a large part of Mogadishu and we will continue capturing more bases. Our target is to seize 50% of Mogadishu by the end of this month”, said Wafula Wamunyinyi who was addressing the media in Nairobi on Friday. Mr. Wamunyinyi made the remarks following several days of bloody clashes in Mogadishu that have claimed dozens of lives. (more…)
