Besigye to meet British PM David Cameron

Dr. Kizza Besigye, the newly elected Inter Party Cooperation [IPC] flag bearer for the 2011 elections, is set to meet British Prime Minister Rt. Hon. David Cameron MP.
Dr. Besigye, who is also the Forum for Democratic Change [FDC] party President, will start his UK tour on Saturday 2nd October 2010 as Guest of Honour and Key-Note speaker at a Dinner-Dance party hosted by FDC-UK Chapter. (more…)
Democracy vital for development, says UN

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has said democracy is an “indispensable” tool to better the lives of people around the world. The world’s top diplomat made the remark on the occasion of the International Day of Democracy that was celebrated on 15th Sept.
This year’s International Day of Democracy fell just days before the start of a three-day gathering at the UN Headquarters in New York where world leaders gathered to measure progress achieved so far in pursuit of the Millennium Development Goals [MDGs].

Al-Shabaab captures Mogadishu radio stations

Extremist Somali militants suspected to be from the radical Islamist group Al-Shabaab have seized a number of media houses in the Somali capital Mogadishu.
Reports from Mogadishu indicate that a radio station called Horn Afrik Radio was raided and occupied by Al-Shabaab. The militants then ordered workers to hand over keys to the studios before asking them vacate the station premises all together.
Other reports that are yet to be confirmed say Al-Shabaab also raided and occupied another radio station called Capital Voice. (more…)
Iran-Africa want new world order, Ahmadinejad

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said both Iran and Africa want “a new world order”. He made the remarks while opening the just concluded Iran-Africa summit in the Iranian capital Tehran.
The summit, the first of its kind between African and Iran, kicked off on 14th September and attracted government and private sector representatives from over 40 African countries. The Presidents of Senegal and Malawi also attended the get-together that focused on expanding political and economic ties between the two sides.

Mandela blasted Blair over Iraq invasion

Nelson Mandela felt terribly betrayed by Tony Blair’s decision to join the invasion of Iraq; a new book has claimed.
British Labour party MP Peter Hain said in his biography of the ex-South African President that Mr. Mandela was “breathing fire” down the line when he made his furious protest phone call to him as a UK Minister at the time.
Mr. Hain, the former Welsh Secretary, said Mandela felt that Tony Blair’s good work had been “blown out of the water” by the war. He said the criticisms were made formally, not in a private capacity. (more…)
