Gen. Salim Saleh: Is he a suspect?

President Yoweri Museveni’s young brother Caleb Akandwanaho aka General Salim Saleh may be linked to possible involvement in mercenary activities in war-torn Somalia, Uganda Correspondent can exclusively reveal.

The details emerged after Saracen International; a company associated with Gen. Salim Saleh, lost a lucrative contract to undertake some work in Somalia.  Our source in Mogadishu said the Transitional Federal Government [TFG] of Somalia declared last week, Thursday 27^th January that it had severed its relationship with Saracen International.

The decision, we are told, came after a closed door cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed in the capital Mogadishu. (more…)

The ghost voters of Lalogi-Gulu

The Electoral Commission’s official voters’ register for a polling station in a remote part of Gulu district in northern Uganda has tens, perhaps even hundreds of Bantu sounding names, Uganda Correspondent can reveal.

The register was sent to Uganda Correspondent by a concerned Ugandan who thought it was highly suspicious that such a remote rural corner of Gulu could be that “cosmopolitan” with so many names of people you wouldn’t ordinarily expect to find there.

The register in question is for Jaka Parish, Lalogi P 7 School polling station in Omoro County-Gulu district.  On this register, there are ‘un-Acholi’ names like Byamukama Moses, Byamugisha Innocent, Arigabire Michael, Arinaitwe Annet, Arinaitwe Pauson, Ainebiona Giorias, Akampurira Emanuel, Abigaba Geoffrey, Abireba Dickens, Adam Enock, Adam Yusuf, Aduba Vitala, and Amodoi John.

DP Supremo Norbert Mao

Democratic Party President General Norbert Mao has expressed shock at the manner in which Museveni’s government has handled the arrest and illegal detention of his party’s supporter Annet Namwanga.

Annet Namwanga was kidnapped two weeks ago and for a long time, no one knew her whereabouts or whether she was even alive at all.  NRM government operatives had denied any involvement in the disappearance of Annet Namwanga until UPDF and Defence Spokesman Lt. Col. Felix Kulaiyigye came cleaned and confessed that the army was indeed holding the DP supporter.

NRM's Ochora

President Museveni’s representative in Gulu District Col. Walter Ochora, who is the Resident District Commissioner [RDC] of Gulu, has caused uproar among online Ugandans on Facebook after he allegedly teased a woman about how much she would charge for ‘kayabali’, a form of sex practiced in Western Uganda.

Ochora is said to have made the offensive remarks while discussing the 2011 elections on Facebook.  He allegedly told one woman that, “…look for a husband and give him that advice.  You know you will never represent the Acholis.  We don’t have male prostitutes in my community unless you want to share with me how much you charge for a round of KASHABALI”.
