Museveni can rig but won’t survive another 5yrs

Obote was just skimming off the cream which the British colonialists had left. It shows that Africans cannot run their countries without a helping hand from the Western countries of Europe and America. The British handed over to Obote a country with a good economy. But as years went by, the incompetence of the African leaders like Obote became evident.
Now, in Uganda, without Economic help from the European Union, which funds almost fifty percent of our budget, Uganda can hardly function as a nation. To say that Ugandans were better off under Obote, because he built roads and hospitals is a grotesque misrepresentation of facts.
What we needed more under Obote, as we do today under Museveni, is freedom of speech. By this I mean the ability to criticize my government without fear. We want full democracy first before we can talk about good roads and hospitals.
It was Obote’s denial of democracy to the Ugandan people by abolishing political parties like DP, and imprisoning his political opponents that set in motion a chain of political events which eventually led to even worse dictators like Amin and now Museveni to accede to the seat of power in Uganda.
Had Obote played by the rules, and by this I mean observing the 1962 constitution, Uganda would have been a different place. Obote was spoilt by his tribal army which was composed mainly of his tribesmen from Northern Uganda. In the same way Museveni is spoilt by his UPDF which is composed of his tribesmen at the top.
We need divine intervention to get rid of the curse of Museveni’s regime. They say that history repeats itself, so I hope Museveni will have the same fate as his predecessors. Uganda has been ruled by crooks since independence. The scale of thievery with impunity which we witness in the Uganda of today defies belief.
The UPDF and other security organizations are used by Museveni to guard and protect him and his henchmen, while stealing and stripping bare the country of its resources and foreign exchange reserves. The haste with which supplementary budgets are passed through parliament whereby billions of shillings are given to the State House makes me think that may be, Museveni has a premonition that his time has run out, hence the urge to steal as much money as possible before the regime is ousted.
Even if Museveni rigs and wins the election, this is no guarantee that his regime will survive the next five years. This is going to be just the beginning of the end. Please log into www.ugandacorrespondent.com every Monday to read our top stories and anytime mid-week for our news updates.
