The chaos that is engulfing the country has seen FDC polling agents kicked out of several polling stations in Janet Museveni’s Ruhama Constituency, Uganda Correspondent can exclusively reveal.
Mr. Augustine Ruzindana, FDC’s Secretary for Research, who is also the party’s candidate for the Ruhama Constituency parliamentary seat, has told this reporter that, “…the situation is still deteriorating in the constituency”.
In particular, Ruzindana said, “…FDC agents have been kicked out of a number of polling stations in Ruhaama Constituency like Rwendahi, Karukwanzi, Kanyerere, Kitashekwa, and Nyakahita. At Kanyerere polling station, Dr. Kateeba has just been beaten up by men moving in a white unnumbered pick-up for attempting to put back the FDC polling agents who were earlier kicked out of the polling station”.
Ruzindana also told Uganda Correspondent that two student volunteers from Mbarara University of Science and Technology [MUST] had just been arrested for no apparent reason from Rwemiyanga Primary School polling station in Ntungamo Sub-County.
He also reported that while the 27 FDC polling agents who had been arrested and detained illegally in Ntungamo [see: Govt arrests Besigye’s poll agents in Ntungamo] had now been released, Ivan Bananuka, one of the released FDC agents, “…can hardly stand because his legs were badly beaten”.
As the 27 FDC polling agents were being released, Ruzindana said, “…several other FDC agents were still being arrested by security operatives. Mr. Beyanga Yowasi, the Chairman of Ruhaama Sub-County FDC campaign task force was arrested as he was delivering lunch to FDC agents. Mohamed Kadugala, the Chairman of Rwamwire Parish FDC campaign task force was also arrested by the same group that arrested Beyanga”.
In a separate development, FDC President Dr. Kizza Besigye has also told Uganda Correspondent that, “…right now, several of our agents have been arrested in many polling stations around the country. In Kyankwanzi, most of our agents have been arrested by the RDC and are being held at the district police head quarters”, Besigye said.
Asked what he was going to do about the rapidly deteriorating situation, the FDC President said, “…we made it clear how we will handle the post election situation. We have our own tally centres where we shall declare our own results and leave it to the people of Uganda to decide”.
He also revealed that he has told his agents who were arrested and later released not to sign the declaration forms because the process has been fatally tampered with. END. Please log into www.ugandacorrespondent.com every Monday to read our top stories and anytime mid-week for our news updates.
