Ethics Minister Buturo resigns from cabinet

The Minister of State for Ethics and Integrity Dr. James Nsaba Buturo has resigned from cabinet following the Supreme Court judgement that stripped him of his seat in parliament for leaving his NRM party to stand for re-election as an independent candidate.
In its judgment, the Supreme Court ruled that by abandoning the NRM on whose ticket he went to parliament, Dr. Buturo, plus eight other Ministers who stood for re-election as independent candidates after losing in the NRM primaries, were now occupying their seats in parliament illegally.
Unconfirmed information reaching Uganda Correspondent indicates that Dr. Buturo, unlike his eight colleagues who are hanging on the hope that they will be sworn in as ex-officio MPs and re-appointed as Ministers, has handed over his office to a Minister of State in the office of the Vice President’s office.
Prof. Apollo Nsibambi, as Prime Minister, asked the nine affected Ministers to leave office but some have vowed to remain in office until President Museveni, as the appointing authority, decides their fate.
