FDC agents are ‘killing us from within’ – Minister

By Timothy Nsubuga

6th June 2011:

Injured Besigye. Are his men killing Museveni's govt from within?

One of the ruling party’s [NRM’s] rising cadres who has just been appointed Minister of State by President Yoweri Museveni has admitted for the first time, on condition of strict anonymity, that secret agents from the opposition Forum for Democratic Change [FDC] party are working “quietly from within” to lure Museveni’s government into FDC’s traps.

Speaking to Uganda Correspondent from Ntinda, a Kampala suburb near his home, the young NRM ideologue also said:  “…You know, when I saw the way some of our top leaders and security officers responded to the ‘walk-to-walk’ protests, I was shocked.  Shocked because I couldn’t believe that my government could do such things!  I was instantly convinced that FDC had planted some secret agents who are working quietly, meticulously, but also very aggressively to kill us from within.  All I needed was the proof”, said the young NRM cadre.

The discovery of FDC’s smoking gun

Convinced about the existence of secret FDC saboteurs thriving within his party, the young, energetic, ambitious, and enthusiastic NRM ideologue said he set off on a secret mission of his own to prove his suspicions to himself first, and then to his party leaders.

“…I have ambitions of leading my party in the near future.  But I am not telling when now.  So I first wanted to prove to myself that my suspicions were true before I put my credibility on the line before our leaders.  Indeed, barely a week into my investigations, I discovered that we have very influential people in the NRM who are actually our enemies”, the young Minister said.

So what exactly were these “FDC enemies working from within” doing to harm the NRM government, I asked the Minister.  As if to make sure it was safe for him to speak about it, he quickly looked around the room, reached out for his cold bottle of Bell beer, took a sip, and then looked me straight in the face before making his revelation in low, almost whispering voice.

“…I found that they are actually using their proximity to the President, and their influence within the party, to deliberately mislead us as a government into FDC’s traps.  As a result, we have now unwittingly made Besigye an accidental hero and democracy champion while destroying our democratic credentials locally and internationally at the same time.  That is something that I find most regrettable”, he said.

FDC saboteurs have spread like a dangerous cancer

When asked how widespread he thought the problem of FDC infiltration was, the Minister, with his tiny but horror stricken eyes wide open, expressed real fears that the problem could be in every major government department in Kampala as well as at district level.

“…I have real fears that FDC saboteurs may have already spread like a dangerous cancer in all our government departments.  In fact, I believe Besigye gets secret intelligence briefings from these people to guide his actions.  And the problem may have gone beyond Kampala to the districts.  Sometimes I hear what some RDC’s say, and do and I wonder if they are not actually enemies of the government.  It’s unbelievable”, the worried Minister said.

NRM dismisses infiltration concerns

The young Minister also said he was terribly disappointed when a top member of his party dismissed his concerns as scaremongering.  “…To be honest with you, I was shocked and terribly disappointed when one of our top most leaders dismissed my concerns scaremongering.  Now that I am a Minister, I will seek audience with the President and report directly to him.  I can’t wait for that opportunity to save our government”, said the Minister.

One of FDC’s top strategists, who is also a member of the party’s all powerful National Executive Committee [NEC], was however evasive when Uganda Correspondent contacted him for a comment on the allegations raised by the Minister.

“…All you need to know is that there are thousands of people within this illegitimate government who totally disagree with Museveni but feel trapped.  Sooner or later, Museveni will see the level of dissent around him and he will be shocked like Mubarack, Ben Ali, and Gaddafi”, he said.  END.  Please login to www.ugandacorrespondent.com every Monday to read our top stories and anytime mid-week for our news updates.
