The ‘ethnic army’ keeping Museveni in power

By Timothy Nsubuga

26th Sept 2011:

The 'ethnic' Generals keeping Museveni in power?

Whether it was justifiable or not, a great number of Ugandans raised a blaring alarm of concern about the ‘ethnic army’ that President Museveni unveiled to the world when he blasted his way into power on the 26th [some say 25th] of January 1986.

One of Museveni’s acclaimed early strengths was that as a leader, he had his fingers on the pulse of the nation.  His reaction to the nation’s pulse however (more…)

Kagame shames Museveni with ‘Gold Award’

By John Stephen Katende

26th Sept 2011:

Are they toasting Kagame's 'Gold Award'?

New York – Rwandan President Maj. General Paul Kagame has put his more senior Ugandan counterpart General Yoweri Museveni to great shame after he [Kagame] won the coveted United Nation’s ‘Gold Award’ for great ‘forest promotion policies’.  For the context, it should be noted that while Uganda has been at it for decades, Rwanda only initiated its forestry programme in 2004. Museveni wants ‘national cake’ shared fairly

By George Murumba

26th Sept 2011:

Is his new fairness drive genuine?

After more than twenty five years of hearing Ugandans complaining about the inequitable distribution of the nation’s resources a.k.a ‘national cake’, President Yoweri Museveni seems to have finally listened and consequently directed Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi to “immediately” implement his executive directive.

Museveni’s directive was contained in a strongly worded letter [seen by Uganda Correspondent] to the Prime Minister and copied to all Members of Parliament.  Top among the ‘national cake’ issues to be reviewed by Amama Mbabazi is the allocation of road equipment and slots for army and police recruitment for districts. Museveni: Third worst tyrant in the world?

Foreign Policy magazine, a global publication that predominantly concerns itself with international affairs has published a list of the world’s ‘worst of the worst’ dictators and or tyrants in which our very own President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is named as the third worst dictator on planet earth.

The list, compiled by respected Ghanian Professor George BN Ayittey, was published by Foreign Policy on (more…)

Analysis: Govt in ‘open war’ against opposition

By M. Suleman

19th Sept 2011:

Col Edison Muzoora: Controversial in life and death

The death of Col Muzoora has not only sent shock waves in Uganda, but in the Diaspora too.  In Uganda, there has been a wave arrests following Muzoora’s death.  The hasty and haphazard reaction by the government clearly shows that Museveni is determined to use the late Muzoora’s image to intimidate and weaken the opposition; both at home and in the Diaspora, especially in South Africa (more…)

Ugandan shines before 500million TV viewers

By William Butt

19th Sept 2011:

Jamal: Flew the Ugandan flag

During the TV broadcast of the Crimea Song Contest in Yalta, Ukraine, about half a billion television viewers learned something about East Africa.

As the Ugandan born Jamal was leaving the stage after his incredible performance, the legendary ex Soviet singer Alla Pugachova proclaimed in Russian to the millions of viewers from St. Petersburg to Vladivostok – “…Now we all know where Uganda is and we can feel the love which has been brought to us from that country by this incredible artist!”.

And that was putting it quite mildly.  Jamal didn’t attend Eastern Europe’s biggest music festival and Song Contest as (more…)
