Kamya launches 2016 election fundraising drive

10th Oct 2011:
Less than a year after the last general elections were concluded, Uganda Federal Alliance [UFA] Party President Ms Beti Namisango Kamya has launched an early campaign to raise funds to finance UFA’s mass mobilisation and recruitment activities ahead of the next general elections scheduled for 2016.
In an email dated 7th October which Uganda Correspondent has seen, Kamya told her party faithful that, “…UFA is going to concentrate on recruitment and branding of potential voters by making them party officials. Each village, Parish, Sub-County, Constituency, Municipality and District will have 46 UFA officials”.
The UFA President said she hopes that at the end of the recruitment exercise, “…UFA will have marked / branded over 3,300,000 potential voters”. She added that even if UFA avoids all public rallies, the ‘Walk-to-Work’ protests, and radio appearances but does its mobilisation very well, “…we [UFA] would win an election or referendum”.
Kamya also revealed that in 2016, UFA will focus on counting votes. “…UFA is going to be focused on counting votes, not just talking etc. We plan to have 46 members of an executive committee at each administrative level. I know it is a big and ineffective number. But as long as they turn up to vote and each one convinces just one person to vote for UFA, they will have been effective”, Kamya said.
Kamya also revealed that the ruling NRM-O party is the only party in Uganda which has at least 30 officials at each administrative level. By targeting 46 officials at each administrative level, Kamya therefore hopes to defeat President Museveni’s NRM in the numbers game and thereby win the general election.
As Kamya launches her party’s plans to win the 2016 general election, other opposition parties like FDC, DP, and UPC seemed to have resolved to embark on a campaign of civil disobedience to protest what they have called “Museveni’s illegitimate victory”.
