Shut up and watch NRM masters at work
By Adam Kazoora
5th Dec 2011: For the second week running, a shocking number of Ugandan opposition lumpens who sell themselves in the media as “political analysts” have demonstrated that they have absolutely no capacity to debate calmly and intelligently with people like me who happen to hold different, and perhaps even more superior views than theirs.
A quick glance at the comments left below my article of last week [See: Museveni must rule ‘pakalast’ to avert genocide] will show you a representative sample of the calibre of men I am talking about. Save for one, not a single one of them saw any merit in my genuine concern for the plight of innocent Westerners who face threats of genocide.
As usual, many of them who are too scared of their own views decided to direct their threats of violence to my personal email inbox. They all somehow, rather mistakenly it must be said, seem to think that they have an inherent right to resort to violence to settle political disputes. Well, I have news for them; and it is that:
Our sacred constitution is very clear on the use of violence. No one except our duly elected NRM government, love it or loathe it, has the right, and indeed the monopoly, to use violence when it is in the interest of national security to do so. Anyone else who uses violence to settle political disputes commits a very serious criminal offence.
I would therefore say that rather than resort to threatening me with violence, why can’t we as a people, as children of Uganda, sit down and resolve our disputes in a civilised manner. Surely, that is not beyond us. How on earth did we get to this level of primitively? If you think my views are “twisted”, don’t threaten to kill me.
I have an inherent right to express my “twisted views” and no amount of intimidation from the so-called “unwashed dregs” in opposition circles is going to stop me from expressing them. President Museveni fought murderers to win us these rights. That is why you can criticise us in the NRM and still wake up to see the light of day.
As I said, as the ruling party chosen in a free and fair election by a massive 68% of all registered Ugandan voters, we have both the legitimacy and the legal right to use violence in the interest of national security. So the bitter truth for all opposition lumpens is that we shall never ever allow anyone to take us back to the bad old days.
If you have no brains to debate in a civilised way, then simply shut up and watch the intellectual masters in the NRM at work. END. Please login to www.ugandacorrespondent.com every Monday to read our top stories and anytime mid-week for our news updates.
