Reports coming in from the Kenyan capital Nairobi indicate that the Kenyan police may have arrested up to twenty nine people whom they suspect to be Ugandan nationals trying to sneak into war-torn Somalia to join Al Shabab, the Islamic fundamentalist rebel movement that has been fighting to oust the Transitional Federal Government [TFG] of Somalia.

A reliable source in Nairobi told Uganda Correspondent that Kenya’s police Spokesman Mr Eric Kiraithe confirmed yesterday that they had indeed arrested twenty nine Al Shabab suspects in the capital Nairobi.  The suspects whose names are yet to be released, Kiraithe said, are now undergoing interrogation.

“…Police are investigating them because they are believed to have been headed to Somalia to fight” with Al Shabab against the fragile Transitional Federal Government of Somalia and its foreign backers.  Kenya recently joined the UN backed African Union Mission in Somalia [AMISOM] force that is battling to keep peace in the Somali capital Mogadishu.

Uganda, Burundi, and Ethiopia are the other countries that have contributed troops to AMISOM.  More details to follow…….  END:  Please login to www.ugandacorrespondent.com every Monday to read our top stories and anytime mid-week for our news updates.
