“CDM3=UH”: When mathematics explains politics
By Ishmael Kyambadde
13th Feb 2012: As I sat waiting for my coffee and tea cocktail combination, a friend who had sat at a distance noticed me and came with a broad smile and congratulated me for having ended the dreadful year 2011. He believed that 2012 would be better, even though we were just one month into it.
He sat facing me and after a few pleasantries, he went into the subject thought of the week. “Look!” he began. “…I have a fantastic formula for you to think about in the week in respect of our country – Uganda. It comprises of seven characters, each of which fully stated have seven letters to express the final turn of an ordinary citizen today.”
I continued looking into this guy’s eyes, waiting for the magic formula. “…It goes like this.” he said. “CDM3=UH”. What the hell is that, I asked, rather impatiently by now? He replied: “Corrupt Despots like Museveni, Mbabazi, and Muhoozi = Ugandan Hostage. There you go.” he concluded.
I consequently sought his pardon to allow me think over it, since it is a week’s assignment. In truth however, I don’t believe it is my personal burden to think about the man’s formula and its implications for Uganda on behalf of 33million Ugandans.
Does that mathematical formula explain Uganda’s political fate? I leave it to the more sophisticated Ugandans to feed me back through the same media it has reached you. END. Please login to www.ugandacorrespondent.com every Monday to read our top stories and anytime mid-week for our news updates.
