20th Aug 2012:
Uganda’s London 2012 Olympic Marathon Champion Stephen Kiprotich has agreed to be an Ambassador for the London 2012 legacy programme in Uganda, International Inspiration.
Kiprotich will use his remarkable win to promote sport in schools and communities and use sport to deliver educational messages around issues affecting young people, such as the girls’ rights and the importance of staying in school.
Kiprotich’s new appointment was announced last Friday, August 17, at a function hosted by the British High Commission in Uganda to welcome Uganda’s National Olympic Committee members, athletes – and Stephen Kiprotich in particular.
British High Commissioner designate, Alison Blackburne said: “…We are thrilled to be able to host Stephen Kiprotich and the Uganda Olympic Committee at the High Commission to welcome them back from London.”
She added: “…We want to join Uganda in celebrating their first Olympic gold medal since 1972. Stephen’s victory is both historic and a great personal sporting achievement. We are delighted that Uganda’s success came at London 2012. We now look forward to an equally successful Paralympic Games.”
The London 2012 Olympic Games took place between the 27 July 2012 and 12 August 2012 and the London 2012 Paralympic Games will take place from 29 August 2012 and 9 September 2012. END. Login to www.ugandacorrespondent.com every Monday to read our top stories mid-week for our updates
