Diversity in FDC makes the party tick

By Joseph Tumushabe

10th Sept 2012: There are three sub-groups in FDC, or tendencies in the party, if they way they have presented themselves is something to go by.

In comes Camp Muntu. They present themselves and their candidate as peace makers, smooth players, coalition builders, people who are good at presenting a good show of themselves and would rather hide a few bones in their closet. They are good guys we can negotiate with and know we can get a give and take deal.

Here is camp Nandaala. These are not politicians by any stretch of imagination. They do not mind their candidate being presented as stubborn, principled, serious mobiliser, with demonstrated results to show.

To them, it is either black or white and there is no grey, under the carpet wheel dealing. They are not reformists – they are revolutionary. The fire-brand group that will tell you the truth and clean up the mess is before cutting a deal with you.

Finally we have the professional politicians. Maama nyabo! Full of themselves, the title honourable has gone to their brains. They think that being in Parliament entitles them to control the thinking of their constituents and assume what they want and who they should support, or else they run away and stop representing you!

What I have missed to-date are the thieves and corrupt brutes. May be the FDC has not yet created enough of these to claim a platform like some parties I will talk about another day.  END.  Login to www.ugandacorrespondent.com every Monday to read our top stories mid-week for our updates
