Museveni vows to close negative radios
By Dennis Otim
5th Nov 2012:
President Yoweri Museveni has vowed to close down any radio stations that are found to have “…taken into the habit of spreading lies.”
He said the NRM government is committed to ensuring peace and a good working environment in the country, and would consequently not tolerate any “negative elements” that are bent on undermining this ideal.
The president made the remarks on Wednesday last week at his country home of Rwakitura during a meeting with leaders from the Teso sub-region. He promised the Teso delegation that he would strive to liberate them from the “negative elements” that are undermining their development efforts.
Museveni also gave tips to leaders from the Teso sub-region on how to lead, telling them that leadership is all about showing people the way. He added that the current task before leaders is to work for the banishment of household poverty.
He pointed out that politics should entail one’s dedication to the economic empowerment of the homesteads so that families are able to grapple with the challenges that face them.
The Teso delegation, which operates under the umbrella of an organisation called Teso Kere, was led by the organisation’s Coordinator, Mr. Vincent Etonu. Teso Kere is primarily dedicated to getting rid of poverty from the entire Sub-Region
The president commended the Teso leaders for forming the association, noting that it was now easy for government to address their challenges when they are together under one canopy.
He told the Teso leaders that arrangements were now in “high gear” to establish an orange processing plant in Teso which would boost the market for the oranges the people of Teso produce.
The president pledged 10 heifers to each of the 74 Sub-Counties in the Teso sub-region. He also pledged 50million shillings to boost Teso Kere’s coffers. END: Login to www.ugandacorrespondent.com every Monday to read our top stories mid-week for our updates
