Museveni tells Indians to invest more
By Sharon Tibenda
3rd Dec 2012:
President Yoweri Museveni has called upon the Indian community in Uganda to invest more in the country’s industrial sector and exploit the available market opportunities in order to further improve the performance of the national economy.
The president made the call in a speech at the wedding reception of Mr. Kunnal and his bride Junaina who are Ugandans of Asian extraction and members of the family of Mr. Pradip Karia.
Museveni also pointed out that most Africans are involved in small businesses like saloons, boda-bodas, and small hotels which cannot improve the country’s economy. He thus emphasized that Uganda needs more investors in the manufacturing sector more than in any other sector.
The president, who had just returned from a regional leaders’ summit in Nairobi also told the wedding guests that while he was in Nairobi, he had also called upon Kenyan entrepreneurs to come to Uganda and invest in the maize industry in order to transform it.
He also said many by-products can be got from Maize, even though most of Uganda’s maize is currently used as raw grains. Of the many possible bi-products that can be got from Maize, the president pointed animal feeds.
