Museveni is ambivalent about unelected Kings

25th April 2011: President Museveni keeps saying that monarchies are undemocratic. What should be made clear to our President is that ordinary people’s support for monarchies goes beyond electoral democracy – it is in the blood. That is why people do not vote for kings.
However, our President seems ambivalent on this issue. On the one hand, he says that as monarchs are not elected, they are therefore undemocratic; but on the other hand, the same President has decided to impose unelected government officials over an elected Mayor of Kampala.
