Angry Ugandans demanding guns to fight Museveni

Overwhelmed: Besigye collapses behind police truck

2nd April 2011: The government’s use of extreme force on the 28th of April as it brutally arrested an already injured opposition leader and Forum for Democratic Change [FDC] Party President Dr. Kizza Besigye has elicited widespread anger that not only triggered protests on Friday 29th but has also forced some ‘online Ugandans’ to start thinking of acquiring guns as a means of “confronting violence with violence”.

Uganda Correspondent has neither the means nor the intention to positively identify its sources on such sensitive matters.  What we can say however is that all the views presented here below were sourced from online social networking sites.

“…They first stopped us from walking in our own country; saying we should drive, even though millions of Ugandans don’t have cars.  Besigye’s last arrest has now proved that some people are not even allowed to drive.  Soon they will say some people are not allowed to live in Uganda.  How can we sit by and watch these thugs treating us like slaves.  I will not be a slave in my own country.  Just show me where to go and I will join an armed struggle to chase these gangsters away.  Enough is enough”, said one Ugandan with a female name.

ASP Arinaitwe dragging injured Besigye to police truck

The next Ugandan with a central region sounding surname said, “…I cannot take this anymore.  I don’t know Besigye.  In fact I don’t support Besigye or indeed any Ugandan politician at the moment.  But I feel like I have been raped by Museveni and his front man Arinaitwe in front of my wife and children.  Why should we be treated like this? Why?  If anyone on this forum knows where I can buy an AK47, please inbox me.  What I intend to do with it is not anybody’s business”.

Another Ugandan, who, although careful not to reveal his true identity, nonetheless said or at least claimed to be a Ugandan based in Oslo – Norway.  It was impossible to tell whether the ranting angry person was male or female.  JAKO, as the person identified him or herself, said:

“…Who does Museveni think he is?  Does he think he has the monopoly of violence?  For nearly two decades, some of us have tried to challenge Museveni using civil and democratic means.  But he has consistently shown us that he doesn’t understand that language.  If he understands it, then he certainly doesn’t respect it.  The time has now come to confront violence with violence.  I am ready to die for my country”, “JAKO” said.

Besigye, Muntu military credentials called into question

The next Ugandan seemed to have lost faith in Besigye’s military credentials and or ability to stand up to challenge President Museveni militarily.  For that, the very angry sounding Ugandan vowed to take matters in his own hands.  He said:

“…To be honest with you guys, I agree with President Museveni who told Journalists at a press conference that Besigye has neither the intention nor the capacity to do what we all thought he would do if Museveni rigged the elections again.  He is now being humiliated like a kid.  If they can do that to a high profile person like Besigye in broad day light, then imagine what they can and will ultimately do to us mere mortals from their safe houses.  I will not accept that.  These guys have to be stopped by all means under the sun.  Even if it takes me another five years, I will fight Museveni.  The soft gloves are now off”.

And it wasn’t only Besigye whose military capabilities were called into question.  Former army commander General Mugisha Muntu did not survive the wave of attack from angry Ugandans who seemed desperate to confront Museveni militarily after his government brutally arrested and smashed Dr. Besigye’s vehicle.  This one said:

“…Where on earth is Mugisha Muntu?  He has not walked to work and has not said a word.  The regime has now taken Besigye out of action for some time.  Why can’t Muntu, the man who wanted Besigye’s job so badly, now step into his shoes and provide military leadership as a General.  If they are cowards, then let them give us guns and we show them what to do.  I am ready to die for my children’s freedom.  The time for talking is over”.

We should however point out that at a recent press conference at his country home in Rwakitura – Kiruhura district President Yoweri Museveni said his NRM party was duly election into power and warned that any attempt to overthrow his government unconstitutionally will be dealt with firmly through the law.

How did Walk-to-Work to become Walk-to-War?

The face of evil: ASP Arinaitwe smashing Dr. Besigye's vehicle

We have all heard it before.  A picture, they say, “speaks louder than a thousand words”.  In this case, the violent action movie that was ruthlessly directed by General Museveni’s blue-eyed security chiefs on the 28th of April 2011 provided Ugandans with the pictures.

April 28th 2011 was, as one editor put it, the day when ‘Walk-to-Work’ became Walk to War”. Please click on these courtesy links [below] to view video clips Besigye’s violent arrest.
