Former Libyan Leader Col. Muammar Gaddafi, a man who ruled Libya with an iron fist for 42 years, has been killed in a fierce fire fight by forces loyal to the ruling Libyan National Transitional Council (NTC) in his home town of Sirte. Mobile phone images have appeared on the internet showing the bloodied body of the former Libyan leader being dragged on the streets of Sirte, the final humiliation of a man who once thought he was invincible.
The ruling Libyan National Transitional Council is yet to issue official confirmation of Gaddafi’s death but the NTC’s deputy leader Ghoga has told Aljazeera TV that the liberation of Libya will be announced in a few hours. This has been construed to be unofficial confirmation of Gaddafi’s death given that the NTC has always maintained that the liberation of Libya will be declared when Gaddafi’s home town Sirte falls.
