Don’t mix politics with emotions – Museveni
By Dennis Otim
29th Oct 2012:
President Yoweri Museveni has appealed to two warring NRM leaders and supporters in Maracha district not to mix politics with emotions. “I appeal to you to remove emotions from politics. Politics is scientific.” Museveni said.
He added that the overriding factor in politics is to always ask: “…What is our goal, how do we achieve our goal, and how do we convince people to achieve our goal.”
Museveni made the appeal last week during a thanks-giving ceremony that was jointly organized by Uganda’s Ambassador designate to Egypt, Richard Angolia and his fellow NRM politician Alex Onzima to reconcile their respective supporters.
Rifts between Angolia and Onzima emerged during the 2011 general elections when Angolia, who was the official NRM flag bearer, lost to Onzima who stood as an NRM-leaning “independent candidate” in Maracha.
At the ceremony held at Maracha Town Council Boma Ground, President Museveni congratulated Onzima and Angolia along with their respective supporters for reconciling, adding that it will “…go a long way in strengthening NRM.” He also called on the two leaders to work together so as to give NRM more vigour in the region.
Area MP Alex Onzima, who is also the State Minister for Local Government, told the gathering that he accepted Angolia’s invitation to the ceremony following the teachings of the Bible.
For his part, Angolia called on his supporters to rally behind Onzima. The Madi-West Nile Diocesan Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Joel Obetia also called on Ugandans to reconcile. END: Login to www.ugandacorrespondent.com every Monday to read our top stories mid-week for our updates
