Finally, with utmost good faith, let me end my thoughts with a heartfelt piece of advice, a plea in fact, to the elders of the greater Western Uganda and Ankole in particular.  Because of my business, I have travelled extensively through every corner of Western Uganda.  The truth I see on the ground is that 90% of the people in Western Uganda are as poor as the typical IDP camp dweller in Acholi, Lango, and Teso or the blind jigger ridden Musoga peasant from Kayunga; the very centre of the incident that has so outraged me.  Most people however, think that Museveni has done massive favours for all your children; and they are, if you didn’t know, very, very bitter about it! Our visionary President the “great” Yoweri Museveni seems to have finally enrolled into the class of people who accepted many years ago that corruption is endemic in the government fabric and requires divine intervention.  It is for this reason that my thoughts today are devoted to reviewing some of the highlights of our mighty “1986 Revolution”.  I do this not for old men like me who have seen it all.  It is purely for the benefit of our youth born after that “great” revolution.  Our youth are a great team of voters in the coming 2011 elections. The subject of corruption in Museveni’s government and indeed in Uganda as a whole has hit the headlines once again after our “most beloved” and only visionary President Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni called for national prayers to heal the country from the vice.  Great stuff!  It reminded me of a TV documentary I watched several months ago and wrote about; simply because it had shaken me to the bone.  The program, “Ross Kemp on Gangs”, had just been aired on a Sky TV channel.  Ross Kemp, the so-called “Hardman” of British television, basically travels around the world talking to gangsters about their lives and what inspires their lifestyle.  From Kenya’s Mungiki, to Somali pirates; he has talked to all of them. I have been towing with the idea of responding to the Daily Monitor story [Army Trains 200 Banyala Youth] of April 27^th 2010 for some time now.  But every time I sit on the computer to write, something tells me “wait, someone out there will surely see that this is not right for our country and respond”.  To date, I haven’t heard any comprehensive rejection of the militia training.  Not even Buganda Kingdom, under whose nose all this is happening, has deemed it fit to challenge the blatant attack on its integrity and sphere of influence by Museveni’s government. I have heard the media, friends, and foes alike, persistently using the term “self-imposed exile” when referring to some Ugandans who, for whatever reason, somehow find themselves in exile and unable to return to Uganda.  Examples of such references are plentiful.  When, for example, in 2005 Dr. Kizza Besigye returned from exile in South Africa, most Journalists who covered that great political epoch were quick to declare that Dr. Besigye was returning from, and I quote, “his self-imposed exile”.  Only last week, it was reported that FDC’s International Envoy Anne Mugisha had returned from her “self imposed exile”.  It is one those passively made insinuations that I have never been able to understand.  So let me ask you the esteemed readers of Uganda Correspondent:  In all honesty, is there such a thing as “self-imposed exile”?
