Who will guard Besigye as he campaigns?

The Inter Party Cooperation [IPC] has taken serious issue with the Electoral Commission over the arrest and withdrawal of Dr. Kiizza Besigye’s head of security.

On Thursday 20th January, the head of police security of the IPC presidential candidate Inspector Charles Tumuramye was arrested from Erute North Constituency (more…)

AU troops in Somalia

Soldiers from Somalia’s Transitional Federal Government (TFG) and the UPDF’s African Union peacekeeping troops need urgent funding to continue their operations, a senior United Nations envoy has warned.

UN Special Representative for Somalia Augustine Mahiga told a meeting of the Joint Security Committee (JSC) of Somali officials and interested partners in neighbouring Djibouti that, “…I should take this opportunity to inform you that the [UN] Trust Fund for paying both AMISOM and TFG soldiers is at its lowest”. Pro-gay activists protest at Uganda's London mission

A lesbian whose asylum application has been rejected by the United Kingdom (UK) Home Office is to be deported back to Uganda; a country considered by the West to be hostile to homosexuals.

The UK Border Agency is now holding 29 year old Brenda Namigadde.  Brenda Namigadde was among many pro-gay activists who staged a demonstration outside Uganda High Commission at London’s Trafalgar Square in 2009 after the government introduced an Anti-Homosexuality Bill (more…)

A monkey in Museveni’s shoes can ‘win’ by 66% – Akaki

By John Stephen Katende

17th January 2011

Can this 'presidential candidate' win an election?

He was “expelled” from his Oyima clan for supporting the wrong political party in Uganda.  He made history by contesting in the May 2010 elections in the UK as an independent parliamentary candidate.  He was the first FDC man to urge his party to set up “a parallel Electoral Commission” to Kiggundu’s.

FDC’s International Envoy to the United Kingdom and European Union Mr. Sam Akaki (more…)

People power brings down Museveni’s ‘political twin’

By Timothy Nsubuga

17th January 2011

In good times: L-R, Sarkozy & Ben Ali hug

They both captured State power through illegal and unconstitutional means.  Both of them have ruled their respective countries with a democracy “carrot”  in one hand, and a big tyrannical “stick” in the other hand for almost a quarter of a century.

We are of course talking about President Yoweri Museveni who came to power in 1986 and his ‘political twin’ President Ben Ali of Tunisia who came to power in a bloodless ‘palace coup’ in 1987; only a year after Museveni had fought his way to power in Uganda. (more…)

UPDF must punish or support Gen. Jeje Odongo

By Sharon S. Tibenda

Flambouyant Gen. Jeje Ogongo

The Inter Party Cooperation has challenged the UPDF as an institution to either punish State Minister of Defence Gen. Jeje Odongo for his unlawful remarks or openly declare its support for the General so that Ugandans know what to expect from the army in this election.

Gen. Odongo, a flamboyant former army commander, was reported to have told officers and men of the UPDF at Gaddafi Junior Staff College in Jinja last Friday that the widespread calls for the army to stay away from politics in this election were “misguided”. (more…)
